The regime is desperate for a high turnout but six hours after the voting began, many ballot boxes remained almost empty across the country.

Iran court bans state-owned newspaper for 6 months

AP — Iranian media say that a court has imposed a six-month publishing ban on a state-owned newspaper for its allegedly false reporting.

The semi-official Mehr news agency reported Sunday the suspension of IRAN, which is under the administration of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and is seen to express views close to his. The semi-official Fars also reported the ban.

U.S. casts doubt on credibility of Iranian regime's upcoming election

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Friday (May 24) that this week's disqualifications of would-be candidates for the elections in Iran were "based solely on who represents the regime's interests."

Kerry criticized the "lack of transparency" of the election process and said the handpicked candidates are "highly unlikely" to represent the interests of the Iranian people.

AFP - France on Wednesday condemned Iran's disqualification of hundreds of would-be presidential candidates, saying the Iranian people should be allowed to "freely choose" their leaders.

Ahead of the June 14 election to replace Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the conservative-dominated Guardian Council winnowed the candidate field from 686 to eight, all close to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Iranian Resistance President-elect Maryam Rajavi has called on Belgium to give its full support to overthrowing the despotic regime in Iran, which is 'suppressing Iranian people and exporting terrorism'.

In a speech in the Belgian Parliament on March 27, she told MPs and Senators how last year the Iranian regime, with the help of its proxies in Iraq, forced the members of Camp Ashraf to a prison called Camp Liberty - where they were then attacked and murdered.

Highly vulnerable residents of the Camp Liberty 'killing field' must receive urgent protection from further deadly attacks, a conference in Germany was told.

The United Nations envoy to Iraq Martin Kobler was also to blame for exposing 3,100 Iranian dissidents at the camp to 'extreme danger', the conference held by the the German Solidarity Committee for a Free Iran heard.

Two political prisoners are on second week of hunger strike

Based on received information from prisons, two Kurdish political prisoners in prison in Orumieh, northwest of Iran went on hunger strike from the beginning of Iranian New Year.

Reports claim that the two prisoners are in critical condition.

Iranian regime's Intelligence Ministry so far prevented the leakage of this news.

Camp Liberty residents have been 'deceived and betrayed' by the United Nations envoy Martin Kobler and should now be immediately returned to Camp Ashraf, staunch Iranian Resistance supporter and MEP Struan Stevenson has demanded.

The EU's foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton needed to act now to ensure their safety before more blood is spilled, he told a meeting at the European Parliament on Wednesday March 27.
