Falah al-NaqibILA - Iraqi MP and former interior minister Falah al-Naqib warned on the involuntary relocation of Ashraf residents to Liberty, the NINA news agency reported.

“If the Iraqi government carries out new measures, such as the involuntary relocation of Ashraf residents, it will not help the current crisis in the country,” al-Naqib explained. “If the issue of Ashraf is not resolved in a proper manner, the crises the country is currently engulfed in will escalate significantly.”

Ashraf residents are the guests of Iraq and the Iraqi people, and they must be treated in a humanitarian way, the former Iraqi interior minister added. The UN must act honestly and realistic towards the issue of Ashraf, he continued. The fact that UN Special Representative Martin Kobler in his report to the Security Council described the Iraqi government’s approach towards the issue of Ashraf as generous is an absurd claim, al-Naqib said.
